The idea about Body Liberation Network came in 2022, but step by step we have formed and grown into something more tangible and visible for everybody. What have we achieved since the beginning of last year and what is in our plans for the future? Let us tell a little bit more!
A quick look back
Last year was quite an eventful one for us – we managed to kickstart our idea into the little European youth work world. Here are just a few of the milestones that have happened until now.
- Research “Stories of Fat Bodies” was launched in January 2024 and since then has grown to 9 languages and gathered more than 500 responses from people across Europe.
- Our very first project and event, Body Liberation Seminar, took place in Alicante in March 2024.
- In this seminar we met some people who were interested in working on this topic, and now they are a part of our Collective
- A KA210 project Microlearning for Body Liberation was accepted and started in September 2024, kicking off the collaboration between Flourish NGO, DAFI and CIM Horyzonty.
- As a part of this project we were able to create [this] website, visual identity and start building our online presence. Finally everybody will be able to learn more about our work and body liberation!
- In consistent work and regular meetings with our collective, we have defined our values and working directions that are an important base for all the next steps.
What are our plans for the rest of this year?
As it happens with new initiatives, we are very much in the development phase and there is a lot of unknown. But we are nonetheless silently and patiently working towards some big things.
- In the last Erasmus+ deadline, 6 projects were submitted including body liberation as a topic and at least a few of our colleagues.
- We have opened an online community on Facebook – it is very new and lacks people, but this is where you come in. We will be happy to see you there! > Join Facebook community
- We are also about to launch our newsletter. It will fall into your email once a month or two, and bring both news about us and body liberation/fat acceptance. Subscribe to our newsletter in the footer of this website ↓↓↓
- Around August we intend to start an educational online campaign about body liberation.
- Our goal for this year is to define all the necessary aspects (legal, technical, conceptual) to get ready and announce the possibility to join us as a European network (we are very excited for this one!:). If all goes as planned, by the end of the year you will hear more about this.
